I am a Registered Nurse with a Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership with concentrations in Bioethics, Health Policy and Social Justice.
During an eight day trip on the back of a Harley, when not in awe of the wonderousness of Nature, I was reflecting on what's next for my work. I was contemplating exactly what is the purpose of my life and the path I was going to take to fulfill that purpose. I have loved passionately and supported fully the career goals of my husband of forty years. I have loved passionately and nurtured to adulthood four children. I now have nine grandchildren to love passionately and build a legacy that will sustain them far into the future.
The need for Ethics Education has been made glaringly apparent by the appalling and distressing fact that corruption is rampant, our education system is in decline and people are uncertain and anxious about their healthcare coverage and access to care. Our lives are being impacted by unethical behavior daily. It is the ability to envision a better state of affairs in my circle of influence that drives me. I want to promote and inform conversation that will lead us from what “is” the world we live in, to what “ought” to be a more ethical world.
I seek simply the energy, strength and courage to have and use my “Voice” by founding KMS Institute for Ethics and Social Justice. By enhancing myself and growing my practice, I will achieve my goal of making the world safer, more just, humane and ethical, for those I care for most and those I will serve in the greater community.
My leadership philosophy is grounded in authenticity, transformation and caring, enabling me to put in place the processes to influence others to support and enhance the common good.
My MOM was my strongest advocate and devoted supporter. She would say to me, when she thought I was wasting time, "Mary Jo you get down to the catacombs and get to work!" You see my office was on the lower level of my home.
